Devotional Day 14: He’s Looking for a Few Good Men, and I’m One of Them (#fhbloggers)

And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” – Judges 6:15 (ESV)

On the surface, Gideon appears to be one of the least likely superheroes in the entire Bible. The circumstances in which he found himself didn’t improve his likelihood for greatness. When first introduced in the Bible, he is threshing wheat in a hidden place so the Midianites wouldn’t find him. He had a poor self-image, as he referred to himself as “the least in my father’s home.” God, however, hailed Gideon as He saw him, “The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valor.”

When God calls you, remember that He sees you as you are, not as you think you are. The task for which God chose Gideon was far beyond anything that Gideon thought he could do, but God knew better. That is what you need to remember when God calls you – He is not concerned with what you think you can do, but what He knows you can do! The person God chooses when He calls you is not the one you see in the mirror, but the one He sees through the eyes of His omniscience!

There are many times that I think but what can God do with me? I’m not the smartest, the strongest, I don’t have the most assets or wealth, my free time is so limited, how can God use me?

Gideon felt the same way. He felt like the least of his household, but God used him. I think back to the story of David and how he was the youngest of a family of men who were very kingly, yet God used him as the line to lead to Jesus.

No matter your position in life, God can use you right where you are to further His kingdom. You don’t need to be anything you aren’t: you’re what God wants to use, not what you possess. As you reflect during these 40 days on your call to service, remember that God wants to use you because He loves you and He has a special plan for your life.
