How to Get Donations from Social Media

One of the most frequent questions I am asked is, how do I generate revenue from social media? A few organizations have figured out how to turn a Like into a donation by using a sales funnel. Psychology is on your side: if you can convince someone to do something small for your organization, such as Like your Facebook page, the chance he or she will do something else goes up. All of these small steps add up to someone becoming a supporter or advocate for your non-profit.

After you convince someone to Like your page, you can generate an email address by giving away an ebook, a video, a devotional, or a membership to something special on your website. You’ll need to create a landing tab on Facebook or a landing page on your site to collect email addresses and other contact information and store it in a database or mailing list provider (such as Constant Contact or MailChimp).

Once you have an email address, you can get a physical address by creating a series of welcome emails that offer the reader something of value: a physical book, a product, or tickets to your next event. A physical address can enter your direct mail stream to turn that prospect into a donor.

Treat your social media presence as both an opportunity to connect with new people, donors, and stakeholders and a place to turn these people into partners by offering them something of value.
